Is it okay to use a laser as a toy with my kitten?
Hi im just wondering if its okay to use a laser as a toy for my kitten? It’s not an official laser toy for cats, but it did say where I bought the laser (ebay) that its suitable for pets, however you can’t trust no one these days.
Its a 3 month old british shorthair kitten if this makes a difference.
It’s fine! Just don’t shoot them in the eyes or anything like that. Laser pointers are probably the best toys when it comes to cat. My cat could chase it around for hours. It’s hilarious!

Yah its fine just don’t shine it directly in the kittens eyes. Have it chase the laser around, it is the most hilarious thing ever.

- Don’t point it in the eyes
- Make sure it is hydrated
- Don’t have play around sharp objects
- Don’t intentionally lead it into objects
- Don’ lead it off ledges
- Exercise caution

Well if you want her to chase it then its fine. Just dont ever shine it in her eyes. Or anyones ones that matter.

Yes! Kittens and cats go crazy over that thing.
And like the other person said, do not shine in their eyes or anybody else.

It’s fine! Just don’t shoot them in the eyes or anything like that. Laser pointers are probably the best toys when it comes to cat. My cat could chase it around for hours. It’s hilarious!

Yes, it is okay to use a laser as a toy. Just do not shine it in your kitten’s eyes.

It is not wise to use a laser toy with a cat. First, if you shoot the laser accidentally in the cats eyes, it can do permanent damage. Second, when playing with a laser toy the cat sees the laser as prey to attack. They become frustrated when they are not able to catch the prey which can be upsetting to the cat.

That is fine, I use a laser for my cats (it is a pet one though) just don’t shine it in it’s eyes

make sure it isn’t too powerful, I mean some green lasers can burn skin and ignite paper etc.

I use an LED laser pen with my cats, I asked my vet before I bought it as i’ve heard stories of them blinding pilots in planes and was worried about hurting my cat. He recommended the FroliCat laser toy which is a small white plastic tower that you put on the floor and it puts out moving light beams for the cats. My vet did say however that you should always buy ones specifically designed for cats, this one only cost me £1.99 so it’s a good, cheap way to entertain my cat and her 2 kittens who are 4 months old now. It’s especially useful when i’m working from home as I can keep the cat entertained with one hand (or no hands with frolicat) and still type and phone people.

pet kitten is always interested in moving objects. Pet loves chasing behind moving light spot of laser pointer. It is just the reason why laser pointer is usually described as a pet toy.
You can have a try of lower power laser pointer less than 5mW. Do not point it at eyes and skins of your pet.
