Why would someone buy from a pet store?

I understand buying food, pet supplies, and goldfish; but I mean cats and dogs. Who would buy animals that were obtained from puppy mills and irresponsible breeders? Why would you support that?
I do not support breeders either.

Just because people do it, doesn’t mean they support it – people go to the pet stores because they’re just so much more convenient for them, because if they took time to find a reputable breeder for them, then, well, it’d take time, and then you’d have to deal with shipping or pick-up, it would be more expensive, and then they’ll probably ask questions…… it’s just about people naturally being selfish. So really, I’m supporting your point, just in different words. (And also, I’ve never actually done this – I have no cats or dogs, I just know this.)

I don’t, I feel bad for those animals. I guess because they’re cheaper and looked after so I guess easier than going to a breeder or a shelter. I don’t know why either, I think it’s mean. At least with dogs and cats in a shelter they’re kept in their own wide areas.

Because some people really just don’t care that millions of dogs and cats die each year in shelters. They would rather have a sick puppy mill puppy.

My yorkie was $300 and a petstore tried to sell me a puppy mill one for $3000. I could get a champion dog for that much money.

I don’t….i either adopt from kill shelters or keep unclaimed strays i find on the street. People are often buying dogs from pet stores on a complete whim willing to pay hundreds and hundreds for a poorly bred "designer breed" that they see in the window. I wish these pet stores would only sell dogs that have been obtained from shelters. This would be a win win situation. Puppy mills wouldn’t sell puppies to the stores. Dogs would get taken from a shelter situation to a place where they will hopefully get adopted. I just don’t understand why people would support puppy mills.

I for one hate the idea of puppy mills. I wish that people would stop buying from pet stores, because by buying from them they are just supporting puppy mills even more. I didn’t even know about this a year ago and now I strongly hate the idea. Ugh.! even the mere thought of it angers me. I can’t even believe that puppy mills are legal.!
