What type of toys do cats like the most?

I know they like feather toys…but what else do they like? Please help I’m going to foster cats soon and really want the cats to be happy.
The toys that my cats love the most are… -The little plastic balls with bells in them. They love to play with them in open spaces where they have room to hit them around, like on the kitchen floor. One of my cats actually picks them up in her mouth and brings them to us and we throw them for her and then she plays for a few minutes and brings it back. It is like fetching but she won’t just do it on command. They obviously still love to play with them on their own too. -Plastic toy springs for cats. These are my other cats favorite toys (the one who doesn’t fetch the balls). She loves to play with them. My other cat likes them too but not as much. Here is a link to a picture– http://goo.gl/V0Y4e -Small toy mice. Like these ones… http://www.amazon.com/PETCO-Fuzzy-Mice-Catnip-Toys/dp/B003KLM6KI/ref=sr_1_123?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1302400773&sr=1-123 or pretty much any type that you find. My cat who loves the balls also loves these and we throw them to her to catch and she jumps up in the air and catches them. She plays with them by herself too. Honestly any type of mouse is usually good. There are some that make sounds and stuff which I’ve heard people say their cats love. My cats don’t care if they make sounds lol. -Laser pointers- Both my cats absolutely love to play with the laser and chase it around. You just shine it on the ground and move it around like it is a bug or animal and they will chase it all around the house. It is really fun to watch. Just make sure that you don’t shine it directly into their eyes because it can hurt their eyes just like if you did it to a human but it isn’t hard to avoid their eyes. It would actually be difficult to shine it right in their eyes if you were evil and wanted to but still just try not to. All my friends cats love lasers so that is def a must-have but make sure you get some other toys like the other ones I mentioned so that the cats have something they can play with without you around. They sell cheap ones at pet stores. Strings- That is an obvious one. Just any kind of string you just dangle it around them and they like to chase it and try to grab it. It can really only be used when you are willing to play with them with it though because they can get tied up in strings if you just leave them hanging up or on the ground. *I really put a lot of thought into this answer haha so I hope that it helps out. Good luck!! P.S. Someone else mentioned boxes and I had to add that my cats also love to play in cardboard boxes! You can even make them a little house out of a cardboard box and make a door and some little holes for them to stick their paws in to try to get the cat that’s inside. even if the box is regular and has no holes they will still love it haha. && I wouldn’t advise letting them play with twisty ties or the little plastic things from milk caps cuz they can choke on them. I once found a whole one in my cats litter box that it had swallowed. Regular plastic bottle caps from soda bottles are great though! My cat that loves the springs also loves to play with those!

I just got a new kitten! She is so adorable and hyper! Did I mention hyper!? Haha! Most cats love things that jingle, or dangle. like u said, a feather toy. My cat LOVES hers! Little mouse toys r fun also! U could always get a shoe lace and dangle it in front of her face! LOL! She will love it, trust me. :)

    -Good Luck :)

Well it usually depends on the cat! For instance, one of my cats only plays with the little laser lights. You can get them at any pet store or at walmart for $1. But some of my other cats like feathery or stringy things. Then some of my other cats like plain catnip toys. I also find that cats enjoy a puzzle, i got a hide n’ seek box from catchannel.com that you can hide toys and treats in. Its a lot of fun for the cat and reqards them for getting the toy or treat out of the box. I also like to hang random feathery toys around the house to give my cats something to do when im not home. Hope this helps, good luck!

Be careful with feather toys, string, and any other toys that has bits that can be ripped off and eaten. Make sure you don’t leave them laying around when you can’t be around to supervise.

As silly as it sounds, my cats’ favourite toys are these silly little plastic coils- you’d never think it, but many cats LOVE them. One of mine will even bring them to me on his own when he wants me to play with him. The ones I have came from a copy shop- they’re used sometimes to bind books.

mice of course, the ones made with real fur and the ones made with carpet, but especially the ones that rattle. i stay away from feathers because they will only get shredded quickly and i prefer toys that will last awhile. i recently got a packet that had two identical toys in it, and my cats, especially my Nala, go crazy for them…they are plastic sticks with a short fuzz section at the end, kind of looks like a cattail that you see in swamps or ponds…it has a little bell attached to it. Nala will do flips for it and they all carry it all over the place. they love to chase wads of paper and play in boxes. wolfie is addicted to boxes, the smaller the better. he also loves grocery baggies, but i cut the handles and make a hole in the bottom so he cant get injured in it. most any ball with a bell is total fun for them. strings with knots to. i took a empty paper towel roll and cut three holes in it in a spiral line, just big enough to stick a paw into but not big enough for the ball to fall out of, then i taped the ends shut (after sicking a ball with a bell in it, of course) this provided many hours of amusement for them. they do love those toys where they get to chase the balls in circles with their paws but never get to claim it. they definitely need scratching boards. and they adore leaping and climbing. my kids also adore sliding. they will run as fast as they can and then go for the long slide, doing their best to crash into something, hopefully something loud. Wolfie has even perfected the art of coming to a sliding stop while spinning in a circle. and speaking of spinning, one of Wolfie and Nala’s favorite toys is my computer chair. Nala will go to the very top of the back while Wolfie lays upside down in the seat with his head hanging out one side laughing and begging me to spin the chair for them. if i am not around to spin or i am busy, he will leap up on it from the side creating the spin himself. cats are very intelligent and will find many ways to keep themselves amused.

Tie a piece of tissue to a string and run around the house with it, they love chasing it.
    Lazer pointers
Hair ties, my cat attacks them. Throw it in the air, they’ll catch it out of the air
Get newspaper and throw it on top of them and sort of rough them up
they like to get inside boxes
bottle caps, sliding them across the floor, my cats love to pounce of them
    feather dusters
Put on a tough leather glove, and rough them up and play with them, they like that because they can bite and scratch without hurting you
    Balled up pieces of paper
    just a string by itself
Rumbas-those vaccums that do the floor by themselves

Hi, Jasmine, thank you for loving and caring about cats, you made my day. I have worked with foster cats for years and work at a cat shelter. You can make perfectly safe non toxic toys cats love, for almost FREE. and easily. Take a pair of clean socks that have not been washed in perfumed detergent, fabric softener or bleach, just mild soap, rinsed thoroughly and dried. The socks with the long tops work best for this. I like white to make sure no colors run as the cats will bite and wrestle with these until they eventually fall apart (not to worry, u can easily make more). The socks with the long tops are needed, the short sport type socks will not work for this. Simply stuff one sock inside the other. If it is too fat, trim a bit off with the scissors, but it should feel firmly packed. Then tie the top of the outside sock up with its own top (in a tight knot). Sprinkle a bit of catnip inside the sock too before tieing it. Dont use string or yarn that the cat could swallow or choke on, just use the top of the sock itself. Let the cat smell it first so it is not scared of it. Then when the cat is interested, drag the sock slowly in front of the cat to catch, or toss it for the cat to chase. Not too many cats can resist these. When it gets ragged, (and it will in time) just throw it out. so the cats can not bite off a peice and choke. ANd make some new ones. You can ask your friends or relatives for socks they no longer need, It is a good use for socks whose tops have stretched out so they dont stay up anymore, too. Childrens socks can be used for a smaller toy. The cats will wrestle and beat up the large sock toys and carry the smaller ones around in their mouths like mice. Dont forget to put a little catnip inside, catnip is cheap here and a little goes a long way, I prefer the one that says it is grown in the usa and organic if u can get it. When a girl scout troop saw the cats enjoying the sock toys in the shelter, they gathered socks and made several as a donation, so it is a nice project for youngsters who love animals to do., too. Good luck with ur venture, and blessings to you and the kitties. take care
