How often do you purchase cat toys?

I purchase cat toys(at Petsmart)once every three months,I also enjoy being creative and making cat toys out of scratch. My cat’s super favorite toy in a large brown bag,lol since he enjoys hiding inside and tearing it to shreds.

I’ve always used rolled up tin foil balls and plastic bottle caps to amuse my cats.

Never. My cat is entertained just as well by stuff around the house such as pull tabs off milk cartons, tinfoil balls, paper bags, boxes, or the odd mouse or bug running through.

I usually go crazy and buy a ton for them on black Friday and give it to them christmas morning. :) This past Christmas I spent $45 on the two Cat’s, but saved $40. I thought that was pretty good. And they really liked the new stuff. :)

Other than that I usually buy them new toys every few months. Usually I get it when I have a coupon. But I’m not afraid to pay full price if I must, I try to save on stuff but it’s not a big deal if I cannot. :)

Enrichment suggestions are that you keep two or three sets of cat toys. Every other months you pull all the current toys and put out another set. This keeps things new. If you don’t change toys, that’s like giving you the same CD to listen to all year long or make you re-read the same book all year long.

I give my cats paper grocery bags and plastic bags but ALWAYS ALWAYS cut off the handles! Cats can slip their heads through the handles and when they get scared they run and the plastic bag is billowing right behind it scaring the living hell out of it. Cats seem to love the crinkle the plastic makes. However, I’ve purchased the tunnels cat can go through that crinkle and those spook the heck out of them and I wind up giving them away.

Cats have a short attention span. Buy all the toys you want but every week only put out a few at atime and keep the others hidden. remember your itty bitty kitty is witty.

I buy one or two "sometimes" when I’m picking up the next batch of food and litter at the petstore. But, it’s often an emotional buy, rather than an intelligent one. The only thing my cats like about most new toys is the catnip inside for the most part and they are stupid expensive. Plus, once the freshness wears off, they’re fairly bored with it.

But if I’ve been to someones house who has a basket of 50 or more kitty toys, I sometimes feel bad for "my" little guys who don’t have as many. So I end up buying some of the same toys that the "Jones’" kitties have so mine won’t be deprived. Totally ridiculous, silly and stupid. But I suspect I’m not alone in this.

I need to be more emotionally disciplined and repeat this mantra. "Take a cotton ball, roll it around in catnip, give to cat, repeat as needed":) Ohmmm…

Maybe a few times a year as a little surprise. Although I just leave out an empty soda box or on occasion a fly invades the house and my cat just has the time of her life.
