Do cats have different preferences to playing with toys based on their gender?

I’ve noticed that most boy cats like to chase balls while the girl cats like to chase yarn/strings. Anyone else notice this?

I have noticed no difference in toys for genders.

I have noticed that expensive toys I’ve bought at stored (mostly) go unplayed with. They love bottle caps, paper bags, boxes with holes in them, rocks, pine cones, tiny carpet scraps, the plastic "rings" (seals) you remove from a gallon jug of (say) water, shoe strings, other things that lie around the house.

I have not noticed this to any true extent – but traditionally female cats are more keen to hunt

I have male and female cats, and they don’t seem to have a particular indifference to any toy. Cats shouldn’t have a preference by gender, but by activity level, and just who they are. Feather dangle wands (I call them fishing lures) are great hits with all the cats I know.
