Where can I get cheap cat supplies in Pittsburgh, PA?

I just adopted a cat, and I want to know where I can get cheap pet supplies (cheap but still fairly sturdy/healthy). I’m seventeen, and I was allowed to adopt him on the condition that I pay for all his expenses myself. I don’t have a job yet (trust me, I’m applying everywhere and even posting babysitting flyers), and all I have till then is fifty dollars.
Also, while I’m asking this, could anyone also estimate for me how much it is to go to a vet just for a check up?

All you need are food & water bowls (anything that can be washed, check rummage sales or the Goodwill store), a litter box ($1 at the Dollar Store), litter ($2.79 for a 25 lb bag at Walmart, it should last at least a month) and a good quality of cat food.

And a litter scoop–figure $1 at the Dollar store. Toys you can make yourself. Forget about any cat beds. A scratching post is a good idea, check your local Freecycle list for that online.

Vet checkup here is $35, but prices vary around the country and with the different vets. Just get the phone book out and call around to get price quotes. They’ll tell you over the phone how much it costs.

Here in Ohio, a basic vet visit for me costs about $35.00.

And shop around for your supplies.

I get some things online at places like 1-800petmeds.

    Good luck~
