I use it more in the summer. It seems to keep the water cold and not so stale. You do not have to change everyday, but cleaning filter is good. She didn't really seem to care whether or not the water she drank was running or not before, but she'd come running whenever she heard me watering the plants. When we first got it she didn't really drink much from it for the first few weeks. But since that was her only source of water, she learned to get used to it. The fountain is really quiet and you can only hear it if there's no other sounds. The filter is optional so if you don't want to change it just put already filtered water in.
