Humane societies/shelters do NOT supply pet shops with animals. The pet shops get their stock mainly from puppy/kitten mills, brokers, or backyard breeders who don't care where the cats end up.

Pet shops are not the best place to adopt. They are overpriced, poor quality cats/kittens with a lot of medical problems. You only encourage them to get more mill animals when you buy from a pet shop.

Shelters will give shots, worm and most important - spay/neuter before they are adopted. Pet shops care less what you do with your pet. And any "papers" that come with the cat/puppy are not legit ones - they are ones from the puppy mill registries like APRI or CKC and are worthless. If you find a pet with CFA or AKC papers - most times they are bogus ones.

Unless this Pet Supply store is like Petco or Petsmart it was not a good place to buy your cat. Petco/Petsmart allow the local shelters to have adoption days and bring in a small amount of animals - again these animals are all taken care of before they are adopted.
References :
If you get a cat from a pet store that came from the Humane Society, you are not buying it per se. All you are doing is paying for the shots,spaying/neutering and such. A lot of good pet stores will allow the local Humane Society to place adoptable pets there to help adopt them out... plus, it's good business for the store.. i.e. if you get your pet there, you are most likely to come back to buy supplies...

And yes, it's safe and has all of it's shots and such, so you are doing the poor cat a favor by giving it a home,

THANKS!
References :
What do you mean safe? It's not going to harm you in any way, maybe a little financially but if you're an animal lover.. which I assume because you adopted a cat.. why would it matter to you? Your new pet needs a home somewhere, just be happy you can provide it.
References :
Many feed stores and pet stores like Petco have space where the local shelters can bring cats who need homes so they get more exposure to the public. The more people that see the cats and can actually interact with them, the more likely they will be adopted.
Kudos to you for adopting from the shelter.
References :
Former CVT

They did that to give the kitty an oportunity to get adopted .. And the shelter was probably getting crowded so that's y the kitty got transfered. Which is better cuz at least they didn't kill the kitty!
References :
Most likely they sent him there for better exposure to potential adopters. SO be happy. If he hadn't been there for you to have seen him he might not have been adopted.
References :
vet tech for 16 years

one reason people take their cats to the humane society is because they stupidley take on a pet that their really not ready for. but could also be health issues as well, but just a reminder to think about the fact that the pets in the stores will always find homes but animals from the humane society arent always that lucky before u purchase a new cat. just a suggestion.
References :
I'm sure it just meant that no one was interested in him at the humane soc. so they gave him to the other place so the cat could have more of a chance of finding someone.& its always better to get animals from a humane soc. then a pet store.Pet store animals, like puppies, come from puppy mills, which is where they force animals too constantly breed no matter what its age,or even if a dog it just had puppies then they'll still breed it again anyway.its cruel. But humane soc. animals are unwanted and need good homes.
